Invitation to host the ESCAIDE conference for 2023 or 2027

news

Dr Andrea Ammon (Director, ECDC) has invited all the EU Member States to state their interest in hosting the ESCAIDE conference in 2023 or 2027. All ECDC Coordinating Competent Bodies (CCBs), Management Board and Advisory Forum members have been notified by a letter of invitation along with a template form to apply as a host country.

ESCAIDE is the European Scientific Conference on Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology, organised annually and funded by ECDC. ESCAIDE brings together a vibrant community of public health professionals, policymakers and early-career researchers with the common aim of sharing scientific knowledge and building connections across disciplines to strengthen the global fight against communicable diseases.

ESCAIDE follows a system of yearly rotation between Sweden and a different EU/EEA Member State. The conference will be held in Stockholm this year, as well as in 2024 and 2026. Warsaw will host the conference in 2025, following a successful bid by Poland prior to the pandemic.

The public health institutes and researchers of the host country and the neighbouring countries benefit immensely from networking and exchanging knowledge with the engaged community of public health professionals at ESCAIDE. All the previous host countries – Germany, Portugal, United Kingdom and Malta – completely embraced ESCAIDE in the course of hosting the conference and made the most out of it.

When held as an in-person conference, ESCAIDE usually attracts over 600 participants. Future editions of the conference will be hybrid, retaining the successful aspects of online participation in recent years.

ECDC funds the conference and manages its overall organisation, but also welcomes any assistance from the host country to support the event and the various programmes and side events. Offers of assistance are considered favourably during the selection process.

If a Member State wishes to be considered as a host for ESCAIDE in 2023 or 2027, the respective CCB should send an expression of interest latest by 6 July 2022. More information, including specific criteria and a template form to apply have been sent by Dr Andrea Ammon (Director, ECDC) on 3 June 2022.
