Welcome to ESCAIDEThe 2009 ‘European Scientific Conference on Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology’ (ESCAIDE 2009) On October 26-28 2009, 500 health experts gathered at the third European Scientific Conference on Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology (ESCAIDE) in Stockholm. The conference, which was sponsored by ECDC, achieved its goal of - strengthening networks of professionals involved in applied infectious disease epidemiology
- sharing scientific knowledge and experience in this field in Europe and internationally
- providing a dedicated platform for EPIET/FETP fellows to present their work.
Four keynote plenary sessions addressed topical issues relating to ageing and infectious diseases, the H1N1 influenza pandemic, what genotyping has to offer epidemiologists, and new methods for analysing outbreaks. In addition, over 250 submitted abstracts were presented in some 21 oral 'parallel' sessions and poster sessions, including a late-breakers’ session focusing on the H1N1 virus. The abstracts were selected by a peer review process overseen by the ESCAIDE scientific committee. For the second year running the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) accredited ESCAIDE, permitting delegates to receive CME credits for attending the conference. Following the success of the 2009 conference, planning is already underway for ESCAIDE 2010, which will be held in the Autumn of 2010. The location will be announced early in 2010. We look forward to seeing you there. |
